As you may have already noticed, the History Commons has a YouTube channel, which you can find here. The channel mostly serves the 9/11 Timeline, although there are vague intentions to expand it to cover the other timelines. The main point of the channel is that some of the entries in the database are related to audio/video content, such as those about Osama bin Laden’s messages, the release of Pentagon impact videos, and so on. Therefore, it’s good to have a link direct from an entry to the actual video the entry talks about. You just click on the link and, hey presto, there’s a man said to be Osama bin Laden giving you a lecture about the virtues of jihad, or President Bush engrossed in My Pet Goat.

Generally, you can find links to the videos from the relevant entries, so the entry about, say, the Doubletree Pentagon video being released links to the Doubletree video at YouTube. The videos usually link back to the main Timeline, either to a specific entry or a category. The videos are divided into a few main groups.

Day of 9/11

Primarily, the channel contains a number of videos about the day of 9/11. Regarding Flight 11, we have audio recordings of transmissions by lead hijacker Mohamed Atta from the cockpit, and a person at the Northeastern Air Defense Sector (NEADS) asking the FAA “Is this real world or exercise?.” There is an audio of part of a call made from the plane by flight attendant Betty Ong, and a later section of the call was relayed to American Airlines headquarters.

There are also videos of President Bush later saying he saw Flight 11 hit the WTC (which he very probably did not), and then in the classroom, courtesy of the Memory Hole.

For Flight 93 we have audio of the battle between pilots and hijackers for the cockpit, transmissions said to feature Ziad Jarrah’s voice and a recording of a call by passenger CeeCee Lyles.

Finally in this section, we have an audio of a call by victim Melissa Doi trapped in the World Trade Center, and Norman Mineta’s testimony to the 9/11 Commission about the approach of an aircraft to Washington.

Paul Thompson

We also have a three-part interview with Paul Thompson by Peter Coyote about the film 9/11 Press for Truth (trailer here) and his views on 9/11 (part one, part two and part three). Then there is a three-part talk by Paul about Pakistan and its links to 9/11 (part one, part two and part three). In addition, there is an audio of an interview of Paul by Randi Rhodes (part one and part two).

Pentagon Impact

There are five videos about the impact of a plane said to be Flight 77 into the Pentagon. They are a slide show of the stills released in 2002, footage from two security cameras, and the Doubletree and Citgo videos.

Osama bin Laden, and/or One or More of His Doubles

Some videos show a man thought to be Osama bin Laden, including the “confession video”, the “black beard” video of September 2007 (part one, part two and part three), and an audio released in March 2008.

Yemen Hub

There are currently three videos about the 9/11 Timeline’s Yemen Hub chapter, Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell and Attorney General Michael Mukasey talking about NSA intercepts of the 9/11 hijackers’ calls prior to the attacks, and Kieth Olbermann and Rachel Maddow talking about Mukasey.

Miscellaneous

Finally, we have a video about Randy Glass, who penetrated an ISI weapons smuggling ring, and the interrogation at Guantanamo of child soldier Omar Khadr.

Suggestions?

We intend to post more videos. If you have any suggestions, please let me know in the comments or by contacting us in the usual way.
